Obituary of Gerald J. Sinkus

Gerald John Sinkus (affectionately known as S.G.), 76, of Whitney Drive passed away on Thursday July 6, 2017 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy with his wife Maryellen by his side.  He was born on Sept. 19, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY.  Gerald was educated in the New York City School system, attended Lafayette High School, and received his Bachelors degree in Police Science from Adelphi.  

He met his bride Maryellen Reichert through a mutual friend.  The two first became pen pals while he was off serving honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.  They wed August 31, 1963.  He retired from the Nassau County Police Department after 20 years of service.  

While in the early years of their marriage, Gerald and Maryellen first lived in Levittown. In 1978 they moved to Smithtown and made that their home for the next 35 years. In 2013, they moved to the Capital Region and finally settled in Mechanicville, NY.  

Gerald will be loved and missed by Maryellen, his five children Mary Catherine, Michael, James, John, Elizabeth Lintelman; his children’s spouses Darlene, Nancy, Michele, Paul Lintelman; his brother Robert Sinkus; and his eleven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Evelyn (Wells) Sinkus, and his sister Evelyn.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
