Obituary of Johnny Vargas Mattei
Johnny Vargas Mattei, 65, of Troy, entered into eternal life on Friday, October 20, 2017.
Born and educated in Lajas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Ruben Vargas and Marcolina Mattei.
Mr. Vargas served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1992.
He was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal (20LC) Army Lapel Button, Army Good Conduct Medal (2D AWD) NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal (10LC) and the Expert Badge (Rifle).
Johnny enjoyed fishing, baseball and had worshipped at Oakwood Bible Church in Troy.
Cpl. Vargas was last employed as a Business Administrator with the U.S. Army in Ft. Drum, NY.
Devoted father of Aracely Vargas (Jose Rivera) and Johnny Vargas (Yovet Camacho), both of Troy who are survived by their mother Helen Borrero of Troy, cherished "Abuelo" and "Grandpa of Tatiana, Eryk, Joseph, Yadiel and Jonniel, also survived by his brothers Salvador, Rigoberto and Frances, his sisters Ibis, Marcolina, Angelica, Sylvia and Zenobia and also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a calling hour on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Oakwood Bible Church, 260 Oakwood Ave, Troy, NY 12182 and to the service in Church which will begin at 5:00 p.m. that day.
Interment with military honors will be held in the Oakwood Bible Church Cemetery in Troy following the Church service.
