Obituary of J. Elizabeth Hayes

 

J. Elizabeth “Betty” Pruyn Hayes, 95, formerly of Eastwood Drive died on Wednesday Jan. 10, 2018 at the Baptist Health and Nursing Center in Scotia.  She was born on Dec. 5, 1922 in Yonkers, NY and was the daughter of the late Kenneth L. and Josephine Moralles Pruyn. Betty graduated salutatorian of Gordon High School in Yonkers, class of 1940.  She had lived in Baltimore and Clarksville, MD.  During the war, she worked at Glen L. Martin Aviation.  She was active in MD Republican Politics and Clarkesville Volunteer Fire Department.  She moved to Jonesville, NY where she devoted herself to her to her family.  Betty will always be remembered for her good humor and wit, passion for politics and friendship to all the local teens from Maryland to NY along with neighbors and family friends.

 

She was the beloved wife of the late Selden C. Hayes, who died in 1995.  Betty is the devoted mother of Kenneth (Celia) Hayes, Pamela (Marvin)
Brander and the late Selden "Denny", Jr. and Willard "Bill" Hayes.  She is the sister of the late John, Kenneth, Mary Pruyn and Margaret Clark; cherished grandmother of Emily Pasko, Jennifer Shoemaker, Debra, David and Stephen Brander; great grandmother of Edward K. and Shane Pasko.

 

Funeral will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.  A calling hour will precede the service from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the funeral home.  Spring interment will be in the Jonesville Cemetery, Jonesville, NY.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Food Bank, 965 Albany Shaker Road Latham, NY 12110 or to the charity of  one’s choice.
