Obituary of George Bazakis
George Peter Bazakis, 89, thirty-five year resident of Kennedy Towers in Troy with many friends, peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Van Rensselaer Manor.
Born in Troy, New York, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Tatakis Bazakis
A life-long resident of Troy, George was a short order cook at Deet's Fish Fry in Lansingburgh for many years as well as at Jamie's Fish Fry for many years in South Troy and worked at RPI in the food service unit.
George was a wrestler in his youth. He followed the New York Yankees and Mets and Duke University's basketball, had a great sense of humor, had a passion for playing pool and was a great dart player. He was also proud of the memories of time spent during most of his childhood at Vanderheyden Hall in Troy with his siblings.
George had been a member of St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church in Troy. He was also an avid racehorse enthusiast and loved Saratoga.
Brother of Evangeline (Nick) Spyratos of Florida, the late Mary (late, Jerry) Mazakaris, the late Georgia (Gregory of Greece) Samolis, the late Sophie (late, Agamemon "Memo") Sokaris, the late Harry (late, Barbara) Bazakis and the late James (Marisa of Michigan) Bazakis, also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12180.
Interment will be held in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
