Obituary of Markel Elizabeth Carras
Markel Elizabeth Carras, beloved 22 year old daughter of Michael and Catherine (Hebenstreet) Carras of Colonie, peacefully entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 9, 2018, surrounded and in the loving care of her family. Markel was diagnosed with ALL-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October of 2013, during her Freshman year at SUNY Canton.
Markel is the beloved daughter of Cathy and Mike, loving sister of her twin brother Jordan Carras and brothers; Michael (Missy) Carras, Jr. and Matthew (Alesia) Carras, devoted granddaughter of Kathleen and Vincent Carras and the late Gail and the late Edward Hebenstreet and is the adored niece of Todd (Deanna) Carras and Patrick (Kristina) Carras, cherished Aunt of Camryn, Chloe, Hudson, Keegan and Crosby Carras, Goddaughter of Mary Jane and Donald Wilson, also survived by her devoted friend Michael McKay and her loyal puppy Charlie, his brother Leroy and her two cats Jed and Jack.
Born in Albany, New York, Markel was a 2013 graduate of Colonie Central High School where she was bestowed the "Most Likely to Brighten Your Day Award". She participated in South Colonie Soccer and Lacrosse and was named the "2015 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Girl of the Year". Markel enjoyed being a waitress at The Glen Eddy retirement community in Niskayuna.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday from 4: 00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304 and to her Mass of Christian Burial in the Church on Wednesday, at 9:00 a.m. which will be celebrated by Fr. Dominic Isopo, Pastor.
Interment will be held in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
Markel's family is eternally grateful to Dr. Jennifer Pearce, Holly Fortin and to the entire staff of The Melodies Center For Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, as well as to the D7 staff at the Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center, for their care, love and compassion. The family would also like to express their everlasting gratitude and love to Shauna McLaughlin for her "Gift of Life" as Markel's bone marrow transplant donor.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Melodies Center For Childhood Cancer And Blood Disorders, Attn: “Child Life/Play Therapy Fund”, 43 New Scotland Ave, Albany, NY 12208, in memory of Markel E. Carras.
