Joan will always have a special place in my heart. She gave me my first professional opportunity out of college, but it wound up feeling like growing a new branch on my family tree. She used to say that she felt like a mother hen with Susan, Ann and I trailing behind her, but I think she was more like a golden lioness; Intrepid, intelligent and fiercely loyal ...with a definite soft side for those she held most dear. I am grateful to know Joan and for all the lessons she taught me, especially to live and love with passion in all things.
