Obituary of Daniel P. O'Brien

Daniel P. O’Brien, “OB”, 72, of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John Daniel O’Brien and Patricia Mary Ainsworth Kincaid and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and last served aboard the U.S.S. Charles R. Ware. IC3 O’Brien was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon.

Mr. O’Brien retired in 2008 from Albany Cash Register.

Fishing was OB’s passion, as was hanging out with his buddies. He was known to have a smoke or two and to be a great debater. OB had been a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh.

Devoted father of Kelly O’Brien of Troy, Michele (Bruce) Lynch of Poestenkill, John O’Brien of Troy, who are survived by their mother Marcia Wagner Malone of Troy, Kim (Tim) Cronin of Burnt Hills and Lori (Greg) Jarvis of Lawrenceville, NJ, loving brother of Daryl Freedman and Ruth Willett, both of Troy, the late Liz O’Brien and the late Dee VonFricken, who is survived by her husband Tony of Troy, cherished “Grampa” of Sabrina, Richard, C.J., Mathew and Brenden, also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral procession will depart at 9:15 a.m. on Monday morning from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 for a 10:00 a.m. scheduled shelter time at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871, where the military honors will be offered by the United States Navy and the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from

2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
