Obituary of Donald E. Hemming
Donald E. “Don” Hemming, 78, of Averill Park, beloved husband of nearly 52 years of Jayne Ann Slater Hemming of Averill Park, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 18, 2019.
Born in Middleburgh, New York, he was the son of the late Frederick Eugene Hemming and the late Eleanor Stannard Hemming Deukmejian and was a graduate of Heatly High School in Green Island.
Mr. Hemming served from 1959 to 1962 in the U.S. Army and then was transferred to reserve duty until 16 Nov 1965. He was awarded the Expert Rifle and MM (Carbine) medals.
Don retired from Albany County BOCES. He had previously owned and operated Albany Janitorial in Albany and Jade Janitorial in Averill Park.
Don was an avid fly fisherman, loved camping, boating, was a hobby model train collector and an accomplished woodworker. He was gifted with his hands. Don had been a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Troy.
Beloved husband of Jayne Ann, devoted father of Scott (fiancé, Beth Jancek) of East Nassau, Suzanne Hemming of Wynantskill, Stacey Hemming of Hoosick Falls and Frederick (Liz Goodermote) Hemming of Nassau, cherished grandfather and “Poppy Boat” of Cassandra Hemming, Emily Hemming, Mackenzie LePage, Justin LePage, Lexi Hoag, Delilah Hoag, Baylee Hoag, Reed Hoag and William Hemming, dear brother of Dorothy Enfield, Donna (Dean) Herrick, Peter (Sandi) Hemming, the late George Hemming (wife, Eileen H.) and the late Robert Hemming (wife, Sharon), also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be celebrated by Rev. Trygve Tomlinson, Pastor, West Stephentown Baptist Church on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street Troy, NY 12180.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Interment with military honors will be held in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
The Hemming family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staffs at both the ER and ICU at Samaritan Hospital for their loving and outstanding care.
