Obituary of Michelle A. McDermott
Michelle A. “Chelle” Spenard McDermott, Jr. 59, of Troy, unexpectedly entered into eternal life on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after suddenly taking ill at home only 8 days after the passing of her beloved husband of 40 years, Edward S. McDermott who predeceased her on Sunday, May 5th.
Michelle was born in Troy and was the daughter of the late Paul Westman Spenard and Mildred Doe Spenard. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and Columbia County Community College where she pursued her degree in Fine Arts.
Michelle had been employed by the New York State Senate in Albany as Confidential Secretary to Senator John McHugh and also was a homemaker. She held a few other jobs too.
Chelle was an accomplished artist, writer, poet, musician and loved arts and crafts. Most of all , she loved her children and grandchildren who were her pride and joy and being surrounded in their company all of the time. She made sure that they were all prepared intellectually and with intelligence. She was known amongst all of them to always know the answer, no matter what the question. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a devout Catholic.
Devoted mother of Bebhinn (Keith) Francis, Edward S. (Abigail) McDermott, III, Kaitlin McDermott and Radames Cruz, cherished grandmother of Annabella Viscusi, Keith Francis, Jr., Liam McDermott, Cassidy McDermott and Radames A. Cruz, loving sister of Kathryn “Katie” (Charles “Chuck”) Munson, Judith “Judy” (late, Dean) Pausley, Edmund (Liz) Spenard and the late infant twins; Peter and Paul Spenard, also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 21st from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Chelle’s family will continue to celebrate her life following the funeral home services with a reception in her honor that afternoon beginning at 5:00 p.m. at McAddy's Pub, 452 Broadway, Troy, NY 12180.
