Fr. Gene was a beautiful priest and emulated Jesus completely. I will never know the good he did because he was not braggadocious. It was the way he lived his life that said other Christ. My last Confession was with him. I felt like I was speaking to the Lord. The last Mass I attended that he celebrated, there where two children running the chapel. Fr. Gene didn’t miss a beat, gave a beautiful homily and celebrated Mass as he always did alter-Christi. After Mass I helped him with putting away the tools for Mass I said to him, I don't know how you do it. He responded, do what? I said before so cool, calm, and undisturbed by the children running around. All he questioned, what children? I will miss him terribly. God rest Fr. Gene's soul and comfort those who mourn him.

I was saddened to hear of Fr. Dels passing. I had the privilege of growing up in the 60's in St. Augustines parish. I also worked in the rectory during my high school years. Fr. DEl was a great priest who was loved and respected by all who came in contact with him. I can only agree with the words of Richard Roy regarding the wonderful things Father did for the high school youth and for everyone else. A truly great priest has passed on but will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family.

We were saddened to hear of Fr. Del's death. We have such fond memories of him during his time at St. James & Augustinian Academy in Carthage, NY. He was at the school on a regular basis. He designed & repainted one of the halls in the school, as well as offer advice on the redesigning of the cafeteria. He taught art to our 7th & 8th graders, getting them to produce beautiful drawings. Many of the students did not realize they were capable of doing such great work, but Father managed to bring their talents out! We remember his work on the Stations of the Cross...whenever I look at them thoughts of him always come to mind. We are blessed to have known Fr. Del. May you be comforted & find peace in the memories of times you shared with Father!
God bless you all!

From 1961 to 1968 "Father Del", as we referred to him, was a beloved figure at St. Augustine's Church and at Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY. A priest of great humility, intelligence and talent, he directed our annual CYO talent shows at the parish with a creative mind and gentle but firm leadership. He also had quite the green thumb and could often be seen planting and caring for the flowers outside the church and rectory. It was often at these times I was able to speak with him and receive his wise counsel. All of us who knew Father DelConte and were fortunate enough to be touched by his ministry are much the better for it. May God grant comfort to his family and the assurance that we all have him as an intercessor before the throne of God.
