Obituary of Steven Paul Svoboda

Steven Paul Svoboda, 61, of Babcock Lake Road, died on Sunday August 18, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.  He was born on Nov. 12, 1957 in Oak Park, IL and was the son of Anita L. Tweed Svoboda of Troy, NY and the late George J. Svoboda.  Steven was a graduate of Cicero High School in Cicero, NY, class of 1976 and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.  He was a Data Base Administrator for the NYS Department of State and the NYS Office of Information Technology Services in Albany for the past 22 years.  Earlier Steve had been a chef locally for a number of venues.  He enjoyed cooking, gardening, restoring antique cars, camping (glamping), and making people laugh.   

     In addition to his beloved mother, Steven is the husband of Brian K. Nielson, whom he married on Oct. 10, 2011.  He is the devoted brother of Michael Svoboda of Washington, DC and Debra Morton (Glen) of Killeen, TX;  son-in-law of  Lauri Nielson (Erl Mortenson) of Gillette, WY and Victor Neumann (Ginger)  of  Washington State; dear friend of Robert Mock (Louis Leatso) of Niskayuna, NY; uncle of Kathryn Morton (Chris Anderson), Johanna Rowe (Dustin), Lindsey Morton; great uncle of Sophia and Nicholas Rowe; brother-in-law of J.R. Neumann (Samantha). He was preceded by the death of his father George, and father in-law Larry M. Nielson.

     A celebration of life will be held at Steven and Brian’s home on Sunday Aug. 25 from 2-6 pm. Memorial words will be given at 3:00 pm. For more information: http://evite.me/JJFQx251qu
