Obituary of William R. Hornick, Sr.
William R. “Bill” Hornick, Sr., 67, of Troy, loving, caring and devoted husband of 45 years to Sharon R. Haner Hornick of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, December 6, 2019.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Albert and Ilene Horton Hornick and was educated in the Troy and Lansingburgh schools.
Affectionately known to many of his family and friends as “Bill”, he was the one to be called on when in need and was always there to lend a helping hand to everyone.
Bill had been employed at Lansingburgh High School.
Bill was a huge horseracing fan and was known to all at OTB where he enjoyed spending some time and taking a chance on the ponies. He also loved playing cards and was an avid outdoorsman/hunter. Bill loved most being “Poppy” to his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Sharon of 45 years, Bill is the devoted father of Ilene Hornick (Thad Fennelly) of South Glens Falls, Shannon Lopez (Rodney) of East Greenbush, William R. Hornick, Jr. (Jessica) of Lansingburgh and Teresa Hornick (Rick Busta) of Cohoes, cherished “Poppy” of grandchildren; Shane (Emily Fennelly), Madison (Darrius Burnette), TJ (Athena Vasquez), Paige, Logan, Aiden, Kyle, Cailee, Lucas and Bennie, adored “Poppy” great grandfather of Sofia, Kendall, Shane, Jr. and Lillian, dear brother of Kevin Hornick (Gerri), John Hornick, Iggy Heffner (Sandy), Sharon Schroeder (Frank), Darlene Watson (Jimmy), Marilyn McGrath (Eddie), Carolyn Hornick, Debbie (late, Thomas) Gotham and the late Albert Hornick (survived by wife, Christina), also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families that he loved dearly and they loved his as much in return.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc, 565 Fourth Ave (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182. Funeral service where memories will be shared and a prayer offered will begin that afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
