Obituary of Katherine Anne Ryan
Katherine Anne Conroy Ryan, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on December 9, 2019 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Richard Paul Ryan, Sr.; sons Richard Paul Ryan, Jr. and Kevin Thomas Ryan; parents Thomas and Katharine L. Conroy; sister Frances Yungman; and best friend of over 50 years, Dorothy Fitzgerald.
She leaves her children Anne Frances Kauczka (James) of Orlando, FL, Mary Katherine DiModugno (Louis) of South Windsor, CT, Patrick Conroy Ryan (Monica), Timothy John Ryan, and Brendan Michael Ryan of Clifton Park, NY; grandchildren Mark, Steven, Grace, Patrick, Blaise, Clarissa, Frances, Kelly, and Louis; and sister Mary Buckley of Camp Hill, PA.
Born and raised in Montgomery, NY, she was a graduate of the College of St. Rose School of Nursing as a B.S.R.N. “Kay” as she was known to friends and family went on to work in several major cities including Miami and Boston. She always fondly remembered a six week auto trip around the United States taken with a friend.
Kay accepted a position at St. Frances Hospital in Hartford, CT, and shortly after met her husband-to-be. They relocated to Clifton Park, NY in 1966. Her strong sense of compassion led her to working with the elderly and disabled for over 35 years at the Little Sisters of the Poor Residence in Latham, NY and the Center For the Disabled in Albany, NY.
She was an active Communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park, NY for over 40 years and in her retirement volunteered for various organizations including Hospice, the Regional Food Bank, and Care Links.
Calling hours are scheduled 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 13 at the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Josephs Residence, 1365 Enfield St, Enfield, CT.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 14th at 10:30 am at the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Josephs Residence. Interment immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waterford, NY at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
