Obituary of Margaret M. Ames
Margaret Mary Ames, 95, of Watervliet entered into eternal life on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 after a brief illness.
Born in Troy on August 14, 1925, she was the daughter of Arthur W. and Clara Wratten Ames, Sr.
Margaret traveled extensively during her life. She was an avid reader of mysteries and biographies. She loved going to casinos to play the slot machines. She was a strong and independent woman, yet always was willing to help those in need. You could often find her volunteering at missions, churches, and soup kitchens especially during her time in California. She loved nature and the great outdoors and exploring and sightseeing.
Margaret was predeceased by her son, Patrick C. Halse, Jr., of Caroga Lake, NY and her brothers Arthur Ames, Jr. and Robert Ames, Sr., her sisters Julia Havenbrook and Mary Skarrup, all of Troy, NY, her daughter-in-law, Mariam (Paul) Halse of Virginia, sisters-in-law Rita (Arthur) Ames, Jr. and Lou (Robert) Ames, Sr., niece Gloria Giroux, and her nephew Michael Pease, all of Troy.
She is survived by her son Paul G. Halse of Virginia and her daughter-in-law of 56 years Midge (Patrick) Halse of Davenport, Florida. Other survivors include 5 grandchildren: Laura Halse Nealon of Caroga Lake, NY, Eric (Colleen) Halse of Maine, Scott, Paul Jr. and Kenneth Halse of Virginia; and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Special mention is made of her nephews George (Margaret) Pease, Fred and David Havenbrook, Robert Ames, Jr., all of Troy, NY, who remained close to her during her lifetime.
Margaret's family would like to express their appreciation to her niece Regina and her husband, Lee Jeffords for their unwavering care of Margaret over many years.
Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, New York 12182.
Spring interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy, NY.
