Thomas Carlo

Obituary of Thomas A. Carlo

Thomas A. Carlo, 78, of Schaghticoke, peacefully entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, in the house he built by hand. Tom/Dad/Pa, spent his final moments with us in the same manner he lived, with jokes, quips and cracks (taking great care not to spare a one).  An incessant builder of things, from toys to houses and many things between, he built to live and lived to build.  Guided by faith in God, he focused his creative energy tirelessly building and creating for family and community.

Born in Schaghticoke, he was the son of the late John Howard and Bernice Lesson Carlo and was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School, Class of 1962. Tom then served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 and was bestowed the Marksman (Rifle, Carbine), Good Conduct Medal and his Honorable Discharge.

Mr. Carlo retired from the New York State Department of Transportation where he was a Soils Engineer for 33 years.

Tom served the Town of Schaghticoke as Mayor, Trustee and was active with the Town and Village of Schaghticoke Summer and Ski programs. He was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church.

Beloved husband for over 59 years to Geraldine A. Cozzy Carlo of Schaghticoke, devoted father of Kenneth Carlo, Timothy (Kimberly) Carlo, Therese (Randy) Moy, Jeffrey (Pennie) Carlo, Steven (Carolyn) Carlo, Daniel (Lisa) Carlo, Joseph (late, Pauline) Carlo, Anthony Carlo, Susan (Greg) Paone and James (Jessica) Carlo, brother of John “Jack” Carlo, Jr., David (Debbie) Carlo, Jane (Jim) Darrow, Judy Carlo, Susan (John) Groff, Diane Burnham and the late Kathleen Denno, also survived by 30 cherished grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
